The Only Good Thing Of The Night....VMA roundup pt2

Well I didn't get much from the VMAs, but I will admit there were a few winners/losers of the night who delivered/disappointed when it came to their performances

The Winners:

First off, Little Miss Sunshine has ditched the Umbrella and got her some Leather. Rhianna's rendition of Disturbia gave me so much hope for the night and a little Mad Max tease with the ponytail. When her dancers first entered into the building looking like crazed zombies straight out of a fashion magazine I got my life!! Then RiRi surprised everyone and came prepared with some strong vocals, and although she was not as fluid when it came to the dance moves I still loved the feel she was giving. Furthermore, RiRi showed more of her rocker side by adding a little White Stripe's Seven Nation Army (I love the bass in this song, download it if possible) which really added more to her performance. All in all Rihanna has stepped her game up, and now that she has been to the vocal coach I'm thinking she needs some time with the dance coach (meeting with Ms. Boom Kat maybe??)

My second favorite of the night was hands down The Jonas Brothers. After getting picked on all night by the host (waiting to have sex is very admirable and nothing to joke about), Kevin, Joe, and Nick delivered a great performance of their new song Lovebug. I loved how they started off acoustic then picked it up and rocked it out with all the adoring fans. As always they brothers were dressed to impress (more on that coming from the Fashion Connoisseur) and in my opinion they were the best band of the night.

My next fave of the night was Paramore. I have been into this band since I was in high school and I love the energy they bring to the stage not to mention the vocals of their lead singer Hayley. This band as always given me a early No Doubt vibe, and if they continue on the right path I know they will do great things. If not Hayley can always go solo with chops like this.

To wrap up the winning performances of the night, I would have to give it to all the commercial fillers. Just like last year, MTV would have special guest performances during the commercial breaks that we the audience would only see a glimpse of. I really find this annoying because most of the good stuff is missed doing this. With that being said, check out the full performances of Lupe Fiasco, Katy Perry, The Ting Tings (love this group), and even some old school LL Cool J.

The Losers:

Now I may be biased since I am not a fan of Lil Wayne, but I got nothing from his performance that I didn't already see at the BET awards early in the summer. Did he rap some song that I could barely understand (yes), is everyone still on that Mili song even though his album came and went and was actually beat by the Mama Mia soundtrack (hell, yes) and did he close his performance with the number one Coon in the game (unfortunately, yes). The only bright spot came in the amazing vocals of Leona Lewis, who I am really starting to dig.

Pink's performacne=boring and overdone, enough said.

Christina Agueleria's performance was just plain weird. First off when you know your former arch rival (Britt Britt) is sitting right in front of you as you stage your comeback onto the MTV scene why did she lip sing when she has one of the most explosive and powerful voices in the game. Furthermore, her performance looked like the leftovers from Rihanna's mixed in with some bad clothes from a superhero movie. So I guess since this performance was bad, MTV will rig next year's show so that Christina gets all the awards and is over-hyped for only 5 seconds of work (oops I did it again, sorry Britt).

Honorable Mentions:

T.I delivered a good performance it was nothing to rave about, but I did watch some of it.

The House band of DJ AM and Travis Barker was amazing. I really loved the remix they did to Oasis' Wonderwall, and as always Travis is a beast on the drums and gave it to them all night.

And Finally the closer of the show. Mr. West, who vowed he would never be back on the MTV stage, must suffer from short term memory lost because not only was he back on the network he closed the show with a new song. His new song entitled Love Lockdown was kinda a Letdown. I really could not get into Kanye's trademark lyrics because all I could here his horrible use of the T-Pain cyber voice. Also I could not help feeling as if I had heard this sound before, and then I remembered the Love Below. I'm just saying this performance was okay, but I'm gonna need more from Mr. West before I make my final decision.

There you have it my picks for best and worst performances of the night from the lackluster MTV VMAs.
