And The Winner Is....No One!!!! VMA Roundup pt 1
So the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards came and went, and I for one was really disappointed in the show. First and foremost it seemed as if there were no celebs in the building and if they were there they were so far away from the stage and the fans that when the camera cut to them they were doing just like I was at home: Looking Bored!! Secondly, who ever decided to hire the Euro import Russell Brand as the host should definitely be looking for a new job today. The host was not funny, really creepy at times, and for some reason he would not leave the stage and would simply introduce the presenters and then precede to do their job. Since this was the 25th anniversary of the VMAs I was expecting so much more from MTV, but at times I had to remind myself that I was watching an MTV production and not the BET awards (people not having mics, backstage hands actually being seen on stage, etc). I used to look forward to the VMAs every year because they would always give you a good surprise that you would be talking about the next day and always put on a good show, but I have to say that MTV has fallen and (dare I say it) the BET awards was much better.
All the hype surrounding Brittany's return to the MTV awards was once again all hype and no delivery. For all the promo shots, commercials, and media speculation on what Britt was going to do, MTV pulled another one on us and gave us NOTHING!! For a good one minute we were treated to Brittany Spears talking about the anniversary of the awards show and blah blah blah I don't know what else she said because she was talking too fast. The whole time she was speaking I was thinking "Hoe sit down and shut up" but I must admit Ms. Spears looked nice and she was fully dressed so that is all that matters. Now Brittany's 3 awards of the night is another story altogether. I know MTV has a history of not rewarding those who generate the most buzz on the network, but Brittany did not deserve those 3 awards and that is all I am going to say about that.
Now on to the other winners of the night. They were all irrelevant. I could not tell you who won what because I don't think they even knew what they won. Thankfully all the acceptance speeches were short and too the point, but was I the only one wondering who Tokio Hotel was and why they were scaring me so much. Anyway this award show was boring and thank God Entourage is back on and that the U.S Open was really good (post coming soon) or else I would have been stuck watching only the VMAs.
Can we bring back the classic VMAs of 1999 and 2000 please???
