Momma Something Serious Right?

First Lady, Michelle Obama for Time Magazine

“It has been the greatest single benefit of this for us as a family. It means that we see each other every day. And that hasn’t happened for most of the kids’ lifetime.”It’s rare [for most families] to have dad at home for dinner, to see him in the mornings, to have him there when you go to bed at night, just to be able to have the casual conversations that happen about life at dinnertime,” says Mrs. Obama. “That’s been terrific. It’s normal. It’s more normal than we’ve had for a very long time.

“We stay 100 percent in their world all the time. And I don’t know if you understand that, but their lives are very disconnected from this [place]. You can do that with kids when they are young, because they just don’t care.”

This is why I'm proud to say I'm an American!

Ballin Like Obama

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, millionaires from his best-selling books, made $2.7 million last year and paid just under one-third of their adjusted income in federal taxes. While the income, mostly his, was far more than the U.S. median household income of about $50,000, it was quite a decrease from the $4.2 million the Obamas made in 2007.

Both years, nearly all of the earnings came from Obama's best-selling books. "Dreams from My Father" and "The Audacity of Hope" - brought in about $2.5 million in royalties last year, according to copies of the returns released by the White House on Wednesday, the federal filing deadline.

Obama earned $139,204 as a Democratic senator from Illinois last year before leaving his seat after winning the November election. Michelle Obama received a salary of $62,709 from the University of Chicago Hospitals, where she was an executive.

The couple's total federal tax came to $855,323. That was 32 percent of their adjusted gross income of $2,656,902.

The Obamas overpaid by $26,014, and elected to apply that amount to their 2009 taxes.

The couple's federal tax deductions included about $50,000 in home mortgage interest.

They reported contributing $172,050 to charity last year, including $25,000 each to the CARE international relief agency and the United Negro College Fund. That $172,050 represented about 6.5 percent of the family's adjusted gross income. That percentage is roughly two to three times the national average for household donations to charity, according to the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University.

The Obamas gave a total of $1,400 to five churches. In contrast to 2007, they gave nothing to the Trinity United Church of Christ. Barack Obama was a longtime member of the church, and gave it $26,270 in 2007, but resigned from it and cut ties with its pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, after Wright made incendiary comments that became a campaign issue.

The Obamas' total Illinois income tax was $78,765, their state return showed.

The First Lady Of Fashion

This is why I rep OBAMA all day! Get into this picture of first lady, Michelle Obama and the french president's wife, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy. These two have been called "The First Ladies Of Fashion," and we can all see why with this picture. Get into Michelle in her Thakoon coat which contained a Thakoon, floral print, jacquard dress underneath along with Carla who didn't disappoint, choosing a simple, suede Dior coat for her meeting with Mrs. Obama.

Now this is politics at it's finest!

The Obamas Give The Queen An Ipod

BARACK and MICHELLE OBAMA presented Queen Elizabeth II with an iPod Wednesday along with a book of songs composed by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart, signed by Rodgers in 1952. The AP reports that the iPod was filled with music to accompany the book, pictures of the Queen’s 2007 visit to the States, and photos from Barack Obama’s Jan. 20 inauguration.

And in return? The Queen and her husband, Prince Philip, gave the Obamas signed portraits of themselves.

Now, I understand the nice gesture of the Ipod but, the signed pictures of themselves? Come on! We've got to do better Queen. Above all, I'm excited how the Obama's are switching up the entire swag of the White House. They are so modernized and current. I think this is the first time we've been so engaged with our president and what he's doing/not doing. Werk Out Barack!

Andre Leon Talley Welcomes Michelle To The Couture Life

Michelle Obama appears on the cover of Vogue's March issue in a Jason Wu design—the same designer who created her inauguration gown. In the issue, the first lady is featured in pieces from her own wardrobe by boldface names like J. Crew and Narciso Rodriguez. Photographer Annie Leibovitz snapped Mrs. Obama. From Wall Street Journal: Mrs. Obama addresses the fashion fishbowl that she now lives in, given that blogs and media are tracking every sartorial decision she makes. “I’m not going to pretend that I don’t care about it,” she said to Vogue, according to the AP. “But I also have to be very practical. In the end, someone will always not like what you wear — people just have different tastes.”

The "Barack" Berry

The Presidential cell phone has officially arrived and is appropriately nicknamed the “Barack-Berry,” but, in fact, President Obama’s new smartphone is a $3,350 device that has all the bells and whistles of a CIA secure computer server.

The president has fought the National Security Agency to keep his BlackBerry phone, saying they would have to “pry it out of my hands.” He protested that a mobile device would help him stay in touch with the real world.

However, e-mail has long been treated with suspicion by the Secret Service because of fears it could be hacked into by foreign espionage agencies, or that sensitive information could reach the public.

To prevent hacking, the NSA has created a spy-proof BlackBerry alternative called Sectera Edge. The cell phone is reportedly capable of encrypting top secret voice conversations and handling classified documents.

Here's a sample pic of the device.

They've Got A Piece Of The Prez

Somebody is already making coins off our new president, Barack Obama. It was discovered that someone actually sold a Chrysler 300 once owned by Barack on Ebay for $271,300.00 The 300 only had 20,000 miles on it and contains the title with Barack's name on it from where he owned it. I don't know if I would have paid that much for a Chrysler 300. Granted it was owned by Barack Obama but, it's not like you have some signficant piece of history. I guess it's a way to get closer to our president though right? Let me know how you feel about this topic via the comments section.

The Star Studded Inauguration

Barack Obama's inauguration team announced a huge lineup of talent -- assembled in less than two weeks -- that will perform at an opening celebration at the Lincoln Memorial on Sunday, in a kickoff heavy in its mix of history and leading artists.

The roster includes a cross-section of legends and luminaries: U2, Beyonce, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Sheryl Crow, Garth Brooks, Shakira, John Mellencamp, Renee Fleming, Josh Groban, Herbie Hancock, Usher, James Taylor, will.i.am, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Heather Headley and Jennifer Nettles.

In addition, Jamie Foxx, Martin Luther King III, Queen Latifah and Denzel Washington will read historical passages, with the Rev. Gene Robinson delivering the invocation.

I'm not going to call this coonery to early on, I just hope with a roster of so many stars that this doesn't turn out to be a concert instead of a milestone event in history. But, I think Obama already knows everyone is expecting something black so he's going to give them something classy and sophiscated.

He's our president; I love saying that!

The Newest Obama Addition

As promised after the long campaign season; Barack, Michelle and daughters Malia and Sasha have began looking for a new addition for the white house. The Obama's have been searching high and low and have narrowed their choices down to two; Labradoodle or Portuguese water hound. These two breeds were at the top of the list as Malia, 10 suffers from an allergy to dogs. The Obama's now say their next mission in the dog hunting project is searching the local shelters for the best dog to bring home to the white house.

Obama's New Ride

You know your FAB when GM sends you a new Limo to stunt in during the inaugural parade. The limo named, The 2009 Presidential Limousine replaces Bush's 2006 model and includes varies amenities such as larger windows and better visibility for the president, but still has a majority of the same specs from the 06 model. GM was hush-hush about the price but, have said it cost fewer than $25,000. I'm excited to see our new president shine as he rides in his new limo down Pennsylvania Ave on January 20th. After all that we as African Americans have been through, it's time we got our buried treasure. If it has to begin with Barack and the new limo, so be it.

After all that the girls have been through with the campaign, school is probably going to be their safe haven. TOPLESS SWAG: BARACK OBAMA

Get into our President-Elect, Barack Obama walking topless recently. I'm not mad at Barack, for him to be an older man he has his body swag intact. There has been swirl on the net that he needs a man-bra, COME ON PEOPLE. It's no shade to any of the dads reading You Got Tea but, many dads' Barack's age don't sit body-wise like this anymore. I'd say Barack is giving the dads some hope and aspiration!! I say "Go Off Barack and hell for that note, Go Off Michelle."

For some odd reason, I get the feeling this post would make Michelle smile.

What To Wear??

As the day of the Inauguration draws near, designers all over the world are throwing sketches at the Obama family to wear their designs. You have to be living under a rock if you have missed the sketches for possible designs for the First Lady Michelle Obama, but as this is the Presidential Inauguration the day really belongs to President Barack Obama. Although Barack has already revealed that he will be wearing Hart Schaffner Marx single-button, notch-lapel tuxedo for the evening festivities it has not stopped top-notch designers from sending in their menswear sketches. Who knows maybe Obama will pull a wardrobe change, you know from day-to-night Tyra Banks and crew would love that. Well here are some of my favorite designs below and if you want to check out the rest of the sent in sketches check out www.wwd.com.

The Republican Answer to President Obama

After November 4, 2008 everything that we have ever known about American politics changed; and that CHANGE was good. Now in the aftermath of the historic win of President Obama (I am not waiting till January 20th, I will call him President now), the Republican party is scrambling to not only regroup the GOP but also change the image of the country's oldest political party. Enter in former Lt Governor to the state of Maryland Michael S. Steele. In his quest to win the chairmanship for the Republican National Committee, Steele has been called the Republican answer to the Obama train. Steele recently conducted an interview with Essence.com and talked about his ideals, comparisons with President Obama, and his outlook on the state of his party. Peep the interview below:

ESSENCE.COM: Why are you campaigning to be chair of the Republican National Committee?
MICHAEL S. STEELE: I'm running because it's time for this party to wake up and smell the coffee and recognize that the world around them is dramatically different than it was in the 1980's. We've seen the highs and lows of success and we've not handled either of them well. It's time for us to have a leadership that understands the dynamics of technology, the dynamics of building coalitions, as opposed to just organizing a cocktail party where you invite a certain group of people and you say look who we brought in. Coalitions actually require you to get to know people, work with them in their communities and appreciate the walk that they walk every day. That's something that I can bring to the party's table. It's important that we begin to move in a different direction and show America that we finally get it.

ESSENCE.COM: So do you see yourself running against Obama in perhaps four or eight years?
STEELE: No, I do not. But I may have to eat those words if you play this back in four years.

ESSENCE.COM: Some have said these are some really devastating times for Republicans. Would you agree?
STEELE: Yes, and I would go back to 2006 when the devastation first began. We're down to 170 Republicans in the House and they will likely have 59, if not 61, seats in the Senate because of two Independents. Yeah, I think it's pretty devastating, but I warn my Democrat friends that our glass is half full and we have something still to deliver to the American people. We just need to get busy in doing that.

ESSENCE.COM: Do you believe Obama will stay true to his word when choosing a bipartisan administration?
STEELE: It depends on what you mean by bipartisan. The Republican Party is a conservative party, so, for me, the test will be in what kind of Republicans he's adding to his administration. If he's looking at conservatives, then yeah, that's bipartisan, because that's the majority of the party. I guess I have to wait and see how that unfolds, but regardless, as I have been telling members of the party, no matter how much we disagree, we must respect the office and the man or woman who's in it. I hope that courtesy is extended in a way where it shows how much Republicans want to see this president succeed. If a president fails, then we all fail.

ESSENCE.COM: How do you plan to get people of color re-energized about the Republican Party?
STEELE: I'm going to ask people to listen to what we're saying. The only way I can do that is to look people in their eyes, sit at their kitchen tables and talk to them in their communities. That's it. Our party runs away from that and it drives me nuts. We have no systemic effort to build that relationship. We talk a good game but we're not doing the important work of actually understanding what say, a single mother of three children—one of whom suffers from some debilitating handicap and dad is no where around and she's trying to go back to school—is going through. We can't speak to that and we need to, especially when we talk about why government assistance is one thing but being able to do for yourself is another. I can give you a fish but being able to teach you how to fish is better. As Republicans, we want to teach you how to fish. The Democrats will tell you, here's a fish.

ESSENCE.COM: So what's the alternative for stimulating our economy?
STEELE: Wealth isn't created in this country from the bottom up. With all due respect to the President-elect, he's dead wrong [for wanting to pass another economic stimulus package]. Someone has to take the risk and say, "You know what, I'm going to take all my savings and put in a certain venture to create wealth." Yes, it's a very tricky thing to do. Also, what are you supposed to do when the President-elect says we're going to tax you if you're making $250,000 or more? What's the incentive to make more money? All these people who moan and groan about the wealthy, they all want to be wealthy! All I'm saying is, be careful what you wish for, because the government is standing there at the door waiting to take what you earn.

When I was younger I was a strong supporter for Steele and even registered as a Republican in Maryland. However, after the tactics and ethics raised in this past election, I have found that the party that once stood for reform and conservative values has truly lost its way. Furthermore, I truly do not believe that Steele is the man to lead the GOP out of the negative and disillusioned image that they have created. In my opinion, only through real reform and a call to the values that made the Republican party what it formally was will the party gain back its credibility in my book.
