New Years Day Brunch

Some friends and I got together New Years Day to discuss the highlights of 2008, our new goals for 2009 and just bask in the glory of being successful and having the opportunity to live out our dreams everyday. The menu put together by my GG Kourtney consisted of pancakes, turkey bacon, fruit and yogurt and the best honey biscuits ever. It's nothing like starting off the year with successful, productive individuals. Let's tip our glass to a new year, new oppurtunities and a new start.

Shoutout to Javie & the Iphone for the pics.

Let's Ring in 2009 The Right Way

With New Years Eve happening tonight, here are some facts to remember so that you can start off 2009 right.

  • Don't claim you're ready to do all these magnificent things in 2009 when you know damn well you didn't do shit in 2008.

  • If your feeling some type of way about one of your friends, don't invite them over for New Years Eve, get drunk, then do a light read while intoxicated. You'll wake up either happy you got the burden off your chest or mad at yourself for letting it happen that way.

  • Don't have random sex with someone just because it's New Years Eve. Remember you want to bring in 2009 the right way, not the CLASS-less way.

  • Make New Years Resolutions for yourself that you know you can keep. Good examples of New Years Resolutions include: Exercising, getting a better paying job, saving money, creating more hobbies for yourself, going back to school. You get the picture, create a resolution that will better you in the long run.

  • Make sure you have a designated driver/public transportation ready for when you've hit the edge with the cocktails

  • Last but not least, remember to have FUN it's the end of 08 and the beginning of 2009. We have so many things to be happy for. One being, the succession of President-Elect, Barack Obama. Like he said "Change is going to come."

With that said, Everyone here at You Got Tea would like to wish you and your loved ones a Happy and Safe New Years Eve. We'll be back on January 1st or 2nd depending on the state of cocktails we consume, ready with a new glass of 09 MEDIA tea. With that said, We Say Keep Sippin, We're giving you that GOOD TEA!!

'Tis The Season To Be...

I'd like all the readers of You Got Tea to finish the statement above; Tis The Season To Be...Myself I'd say Blessed, Thankful and Conquering My Dreams. I know right now our economy is in shambles but, with the horrible recession it allows us the opportunity to realize all the benefits of non-monetary things such as friends and family. Essence magazine did a great spread including some of Black Hollywood's favorite families. Below, I've included some pictures from the spread along with some of my other favorite families. I want you to take the time out to realize how important your own family is. On behalf of the entire staff of You Got Tea, we'd like to wish you and your family A Happy and Blessed Christmas!!

Words can't even convey how much I admire this family. As the first black family to move into the "white" house, they're already switching up the game plan. It's nothing like living in a period where we have a black president but, to also see a great portrayal of a black family, This is history people. Take note!

One of the best portrayals of a black family on TV would have to go to The Cosby's. A lawyer for a mom and a doctor for a dad. We had never seen black families in that light. Big up Bill for showing another light.

Diddy with on and off girlfriend Kim Porter, sons Quincy, Justin and Christian and twin daughters, D'Lila and Jessie. Despite the fact Kim and Diddy have been on & off, he's always been a great family man to all his children.

Will Smith, wife Jada Pinkett-Smith and children Trey, Jayden and Willow. This is one of America's favorite families. From their keen fashion sense as a whole to their down to earth demeanor, they're a true, blue example of a cohesive family and I admire that.

Lisa Wu Hartwell from The Real Housewives Of Atlanta with husband Ed Harwell and their children EJ (seated on mommy’s lap), Justin and Jordan. From watching the show you could see Lisa's a family person. When I came across these pictures of her along with her family it reinforced the fact why she was so family orientated.

Former NFL player Rodney Peete and wife, actress Holly Robinson Peete get ready for the holidays with their children Ryan Elizabeth, Roman Peete, Rodney James Peete and Robinson James. I remember The Peete's from when they lived in NC. They've always been a prime example of a good black family in Hollywood.

I'm off to tell my mom & dad how great they are!

This is one of my all time favorite Christmas videos, TLC's "Sleigh Ride." I remember watching this video on BET after opening all my gifts, Those were the days.

My Christmas List: The Intellect

In a perfect world where we could get any and everything that we wanted, we here at You[gOt]Tea decided to create our own Christmas wish list. You never know maybe mom dukes will see this post and decide that her little Intellect deserves a high-end gift. So with out further ado, I present my Christmas wish list:

1. Books

I would not be true to my name if I did not want to have a good book to read over this holiday break. Currently I am reading GhettoNation with my "little sister" from the YWCA, and the complete works of poet Langston Hughes. But if I had my way I would love to receive the Letters To A Young Sister by Hill Harper and Grace After Midnight: A Memoir by Felicia "Snoop" Pearson.

2. Shoes

Make Mine a Boot Please. And that is all I have to say in this matter.

3. Purses
I need no help in picking out a great purse, if you know me then you should know besides collecting great jackets and cardigans I love a great BIG purse. Lately I have realized that I need to find a good quality black leather purse, no girl's closet is complete without one. Also, as the F.C. pointed out in a previous post I am a LV lover at heart and nothing will do for me now unless it's a LV Neverfull Bag.

4. Diamonds

Diamonds are always a girl's best friend. But when that girl is also an Aries who is about to turn 21, then diamonds are a necessity. All I really want is a nice diamond stud, Father Can You Hear Me!!!

5. Gift Cards

Wal-Mart, Target, Visa Bucks, SHELL Gas it doesn't matter to me. You may be thinking, "but your the Intellect, why would you need gift cards you're so fly?" Well young one, you forget I am still a college student who loves a good trip to Wal-Mart, finding great fashions at Target while saving tons of money, and who would refuse free gas and money to spend at your disposal.

Please everyone don't live above your means, if the coins can't cover it then that is a sign that you don't need it. There is nothing worse then an overdrawn account.

Happy Holidays,

The Intellect
