Welcome To Model City

BET and Red Model Management team up for the new reality show, Model City. The show "Model City" will follow a group of African-American, male models working towards their ultimate dream, success in the modeling industry. The show will go as deep as showing the grueling photo shoots, extreme runway shows and over-the-top industry parties. The show is based around the essential question of "What does it take for a African-American male to make it in the industry?"

With the stigmas placed against African-American, male models this show is a great in depth view of the work that actually goes into being a male model. We've had America's Next Top Model which based itself around women's modeling and Make Me A Supermodel which touched vaguely on male models but, until Model City have we actually been submerged into the inner core of male modeling. I await seeing how audiences gravitate towards/away from this show when it hits airwaves on BET's new CENTRIC CHANNEL Fall Line-Up. As we find out more about the show and when it actually hits airwaves you can count on YGT to keep you up to date also!

You come here for a reason & we know that!

Claim To Fame

Kim Kardashian’s sisters Khloe and Kourtney will be starring in a spin off of their hit reality show “Keeping Up With The Kardashian’s“. The show is titled “Kourtney and Khloe in Miami“. which debuts August 2009 on E!. The show will follow the sisters to south Florida as they open a new Dash boutique. The girls try to focus on designing and hiring staffers for their new store, but get sucked into South Beach’s famous party scene.

I look forward to seeing how the girls tip when not in the light of Kim. If the show's successful, I see Kim somehow becoming jealous. But, that's something we have to wait and see.

Reality vs "Reality"

I, like most people, enjoy moments of trashy reality television. But I wouldn't be The Intellect if I didn't have random thoughts and opinions about these shows. With shows like Bad Girls Club, For The Love of Ray J, Rock of Love, Candy Girls, and so many others, I want to know can most people separate reality from "reality." As a female, I think these reality shows are dangerous, because they condone bad behaviour without real consequences, misogynistic male behaviour, and continue the trend of objectifying women. Sure, its easy to get lost watching marathons of Bad Girls Club or any reality dating show on VH1, but I wonder what effect are these shows having on women? Do my ladies realize that this is not the way to look for love or attention?

Case in point, "reality" dating shows on VH1. When you are forced to make a name for yourself by going on a show where no one really knows your "real" name until you get kicked off, then I think that is a problem. Yes, I know these people are all characters who have been type-cast to play a part on the show, but why call it reality television then? If you are going to cast a bunch of drunken sluts on television and let them fight and cuss each other out for a guy with as much fame and money as me, then why not name the show what it truly is: improv comedy for beginners.

Furthermore, who else finds the whole idea of giving a girl/guy you are interested in dating a nickname that says nothing about who they are as person degrading? Again trying to separate reality from "reality," I know that I would not enter into any relationship with a person named "Real, Entertainer, Tailor Made, etc" because it doesn't show me who you are as a real, genuine person.

The real reason behind this post is due to my actually watching my first (and last) episode of For The Love of Ray J. First, I thought the show would be typical VH1 reality show formula; where the guy would choose the girl, and come reunion time they would not be together. Yawn!! Been there done that, so I decided not to watch. But after seeing all the FB and Twitter status updates about this particular episode, I figured I'd watch. As usual there were some funny moments (Grandma not seeing that inappropriate tattoo was too funny), but when Ray J asked his mom about what she thought of the girls I saw the reality coming out in a "reality" show.

As any real mother would want the best for their children, Ray J's mom saw through each and everyone of these little girls and let her son know that she would pick none of them for her son. I personally agreed with mom. But I also wondered what she thought of her son being on this show, and if she knew of how her own little boy was helping in degrading himself and these women? In the end I couldn't stomach anymore to see who went home, and honestly I didn't really care who did. But what I really want to know YGT readers, can you separate reality from "reality"? Do you find this shows inappropriate and degrading, or do you take them only as brainless trashy television? Let me know what you thinking via comments.

**And yes I know I did not mention that tasteless chant about Danger for a reason**

Collect Those Coins Kel

With Project Runway moving to Lifetime, Bravo's decided to keep fashion at the forefront with their new show "Fashion Show." The shows host include grammy award winner, Kelly Rowland and world renowned designer, Isaac Mizrahi. On the show fifteen professional designers will compete in two fashion challenges with the winner of all the challenges earning $125,000 and the opportunity to have their designs sold in the retail market. So who's going to decide if the designs are couture or fashion faux pas? Along with hosting the show, Rowland and Mizrahi will sit on the judging panel along with Fern Mallis, Senior Vice President of IMG Fashion. The show premieres on Bravo Thursday, May 7 at 10pm; I'm excited to see how this show holds up alongside what use to be Project Runway. Make sure you tune in to see if this will be Bravo's new hit or the push for you to head on over to Lifetime for Project Runway.

The Force That Is College Hill: South Beach

So, as you all know College Hill South Beach premiered last night and it was for a lack of better words "coon funny." The first two episodes really laid the roots for what to expect with this cast. I'm seeing alot of sex, drama, arguments and even fun for this cast. Below, I've included my assessment of each character. Peep my commentary and feel free to leave feedback on your favorite/least favorite characters via the comments section.

Tiffany, Allison and Milan(if you look closely beside Tiffany you can see what probably use to be Terri).

Tiffany - I haven't gotten much from her yet. I think she's cute and has potential to be Brandon's cake partner on the show but, she didn't give me enough. And is it just me or did Tiffany and Terri(not pictured)look really similar on the show? Hell, I found myself trying to figure out who was who.

Allison - I really, really, really like Allison. She seems consistent and there to have a good time all the while meeting new people. I love the fact she's eclectic and into music. I'm not sure how much air time she'll get considering she doesn't seem to have alot of drama attached to her but, we shall see.

Milan - Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. She's the typical pretty girl who thinks she is all that from college. Now, don't get me wrong she sits slightly. But, not enough to be expect the world to kiss her ass. I look forward to seeing how she evolves as the show progresses. I have this weird feeling her and Brandon will end up hooking up despite the fact she has a boyfriend.

Terri (not pictured) - Crazy much? How do you move into the house and on the first night start developing feelings for your fellow cast mate? I understand you like him and all that jazz but, he's a man. He's there for two things; p**** and exposure. Excuse my language but, I had to get real. If he's laid up with you on the couch the first night, it must be something besides your personality that has him going crazy. She'll learn or leave. From the footage from the next episode it appears Terri doesn't like being there with Brandon if he's not into her. So, I'm assuming since she's not in the promo pictures that she must have went home or got kicked off somehow. Either way, we'll have to wait and see.

Paul, Brandon, Kyle and Chris

Paul - All i can say is Paul Wall re-incarnated. I haven't gotten anything from him except that he wants people to understand he's not white. I hope as the season unfolds he gives more.

Brandon - This dude is going to be a trip. You get to the house the first night, show the girls your body, they give you lite life and you feel like you're the king now. I'm confused because if he describes his life as always being this way why is he swooning over himself so much on the show? He'll definitely be a form of comic relief on the show just for the fact he's so into himself.

Kyle - He's dramatic, over the top and the funniest person on the show. He will be the most extreme form of comic relief. I've noticed the girls flock to him for advice already which will probably lead to him being the center of attention for drama. I look forward to seeing how his character evolves as the season progresses. Side note: Can someone get him some bump patrol for those in grown hairs under his chin? Thanks.

Chris - I like Chris! He's real and there just to have fun. I'd say he's the male component to Allison minus, the eclectic aspect. He appears to be the life of the party and someone who understands college is about work but, having some fun along the way. I feel as if Chris is the type of person who you'll always be friends with after meeting.

Well, that was my light assessment for what I expect with College Hill South Beach. I can't give too much because it's early on but, I await seeing what unfolds as this season progresses.

Tune in Tuesdays at 10pm to BET for College Hill South Beach.

Shoutout to BET for the photos

Baldwin Hills Meets The City In The Form Of Harlem Heights

HARLEM HEIGHTS provides a window into the fascinating world of New York's young, Black and fabulous. Set against the backdrop of the increasingly-gentrified neighborhood of Harlem, the series features a diverse cast of eight young adults who share common goals as they make the post-college leap into adulthood, finding love and success in the big city on their own terms.
Ashlie - As the sole actress in the crew, Ashlie is trying to earn the respect of not only those in the business but also move past the doubts her friends have about her succeeding.

Briana - As a technical designer for Victoria Secret Pink, design comes naturally to Briana. Her natural talent has pushed her toward starting her own designer line of handbags called B. Marie.

Bridget - Don’t let the slight frame fool you – this Spelman College graduate is as opinionated and vocal as they come. Give her five minutes of your time, and you’ll find out where she stands on any topic.

Brooke - For Brooke, a taste of the “Good Life” simply whet her appetite for more. Three years after her public break-up with a very well known international music superstar, this Syracuse University graduate still craves the good life. She wants to make it there on her own terms.

Christian - A Morehouse College graduate, Christian grew up privileged and spending his summers on Martha’s Vineyard. As the Lifestyle Editor for a magazine, he’s found his passion and a way to support himself without help from his father.

Jason - Since turning his life around, Jason is trying to provide a stable life for his 8-year-old daughter. He’s working to start a nonprofit in the Harlem community that helps children whose parents are incarcerated.

Landon - Figuring out one’s life path is never easy to do. Add to that already tough decision being the child of a heavy-hitting leader in Harlem. Landon is very active in the Harlem community. He teaches professional development workshops to ex-cons looking to get back in the workforce, and he’s contemplating a career in politics.

Pierre - Known to his friends as the “pretty boy,” Pierre has more than enough confidence to spare. This former college basketball star is more than just a pretty face; he’s had to overcome a troubled background that includes a formerly drug-addicted father and a life in Trenton’s toughest housing development.

New Cast For Dancing With The Stars Season 8

I've never been a big fan of Dancing with the Stars, my mom on the other hand LIVES FOR THE SHOW. I've seen where they recently released the list for the new season which will be season 8 of the mega show. Among the list, some names that stood out included actress Denise Richards, comedian David Alan Grier, head jack-ass himself, Steve O and rapper Lil Kim. Just from those names, I bet we can expect some crazy antics. Be it, dancing or from the backstage footage. I just hope they don't pair David Alan Grier and Kimmy; Now that would be a HOT MESS. The new season starts Monday, March 9th at 8pm. Make sure you tune in for the coonery.

Jeremy Mitchell On Meet The Browns

I'm all about my colleagues making moves in 2009. Well to start off the year, a good friend of mine Jeremy Mitchell is featured in tonight's episode of Tyler Perry's "Meet The Browns." Jeremy is playing the role of a geek pledging a fraternity who must complete the task assigned to him, by taking an article from Brown's House.

Jeremy is not only talented in the field of acting, He also models. He's done a few spreads with Ralph Lauren(photo featured above) along with various stints in catalogue modeling. Jeremy's a fresh face on the move, who's making his mark on the game as we speak. Remember his name, He's coming! With that said, Make sure you tune in tonight at 10pm to TBS for Meet The Browns featuring Jeremy Mitchell. If we don't support each other, who will?

Baldwin Hills Season 3

One of my favorite shows, Baldwin Hills is back and better than ever. I'm excited for the new cast, the new story line and the new coins these young, black people are going to make off this show. The show kicked off on Tuesday with the normal Baldwin Hills drama; Gerren still sits ovah everyone, Staci is pregnant kind of vacant this season and Moriah is still trying to prove he's the G of the group, which isn't ture by the way. Above all, Gerren still reigns as my favorite character but, Etienne is second for the fact he's diverse in comparison to the other guys on the show. Side note: I don't know if you recall Etienne being on Super Sweet 16, I didn't know either until a friend told me. Well on that note, make sure you tune in every Tuesday at 10pm to BET for the new season of Baldwin Hills.

Obsessed Movie Cover

On April 24 Beyonce will star alongside Idris Elba of "Daddy's Little Girls" fame in "Obsessed". The movie which co-stars Ali Larter of "Heroes" fame plays a temp who becomes obsessed with Elba's character. The movie is being tauted as the new millennium version of "Fatal Attraction". While the plot isn't exactly original. I'm excited for this movie, maybe Beyonce can step out as a real actress with this role.

It's That Time Again

Anybody close to The Intellect and I can tell you we live for America's Next Best Dance Crew. It's nothing like seeing eight, competitive dance troupes go head to head for the title of America's Next Best Dance Crew. I never thought when the show started that I'd be a big a fan as I am. I'm excited to see the first episode and put my bid in for who I think will win the title as champions at the end. There is a blip to tonight's episode. JC Chasez, ex member of N'sync won't be there to judge tonight. In his place will be JabbaWockeeZ’ Rainen Paguio. Now, I'm a bit confused. On MTV's blog they said he wasn't able to make the premiere episode. Now how do you not make the premiere episode for a show that's bringing your career some life? Hmmmm. I'm confused, I get the feeling maybe someone wanted more money and it wasn't happening. Either way, tune in tonight at 10pm for the premiere of America's Next Best Dance Crew.

It's So Hard To Say Goodbye...

Last night was the season finale of The Hills. I got nothing from it really, the usual drama along with some tears between Heidi and Lauren. The funniest part of the entire episode was when Heidi and Lauren were reunited for the first time in ages. During the entire conversation Lauren looked happy to be talking to Heidi but, paying the whole scenario at the same time. It was a huge gagger for Mrs. Montag-Pratt. Below, I've included some pics of the entire cast at the Finale party held at "Tavern On The Green..." in New York City. Feast Coons!!

Gold Is Cold

I'm addicted to staying up late watching the Style Network and HGTV. It's a habit, sorry. Well any who, while I was crusing the channels one night I came across this new commercial for Dior starring Charlize Theron. I absolutely adore this commercial. You have to get into Charlize's dialogue during the commercial. My favorite part is at the end when she says "J'ADORE, DIOR". It's just something that gives me my life. I've watched this commercial at least 20 times, do i have a problem?

The Real HouseCOONS of Atlanta

Everyone's favorite Atlanta's Housewives are back for Season 2. If you got your life off the drama of Season 1, be prepared for even more drama during Season 2. Bravo picked up another season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta after it was their most successful installment of "The Real Housewives..." It scored high with over 2 million viewers. The show averaged 1.5 million viewers, and the reunion special took the show to an even higher level when it came to viewership. There has been no set date when Season 2 will premeire but, that gives times for the ladies to get their shit together. Hence, Nene getting another house, Kim learning what a lace-front wig is in comparison to a half wig and Sheree actually realizing fashion isn't her calling. Nonetheless, I'm more than ready to live when Season 2 premeires. As things unfold, You Got Tea will keep you up to date with the details.

that is all
