The Only Duke I LIke

Duke Ellington will be the first African American to grace U.S. currency. Beating out the designs of Frederick Douglas and Benjamin Banneker, Ellington's design will serve as the quarter design to represent Washington, D.C. Residents of D.C. were given the chance to vote on all three designs, and with 36 percent of the vote Ellington edged out Douglass' 33 percent. Congratulations to D.C. for stepping outside the box with the commemorative quarter designs and letting the people decide what they would like to see on there money.
